Acceptable Forms of Identification

When you are preparing for your notary appointment, whether it is in-person or mobile notary service, you want to be sure you have an acceptable form of identification.

Acceptable forms of identification for a notarization can vary by state, but in general, they include government-issued identification that includes a photograph and a signature. Some common examples include:

1.Driver’s License

2.Passport

3.State-issued Identification Card

4.Military ID

5.Resident Alien Card

6. Inmate Identification Card

7. A Valid Consular Identification

8. Tribal Identification Card

*It’s important to note that the identification must be current and unexpired, and in some cases, it may need to have been issued within a certain time frame (such as the last five years). The identification must also have a photograph and signature that matches the person presenting it for notarization.

If the person does not have one of the above forms of identification, some states may accept alternative forms of identification, such as a credible witness(s). However, it’s best to check with your state’s notary laws to determine what forms of identification are acceptable https://www.sos.ca.gov/notary/
